Projects Benefitting Cabarrus County
- The North Carolina Men’s Health Report Card draws from numerous sources to provide a comprehensive overview of the health landscape for men across the state.
- The UNC Nutrition Research Institute and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center are studying the link between obesity and cancer with funding from the National Cancer Institute.
- With funding from the National College Advising Corps, UNC-Chapel Hill's Carolina College Advising Corps aims to help low-income, first generation, and under-represented North Carolinian students attend college.
- The UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention runs No Kid Hungry N.C. with funding from Share Our Strength to help end child hunger and ensure kids get the food they need by increasing access to underutilized federal child nutrition programs for school breakfast, afterschool meals, and summer meals.

Nutrition Research Institute
The UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) leads the field of precision nutrition research through their work in fundamental, translational, clinical and community nutrition science, leading to better health knowledge and awareness. The development of “individualized nutrition” helps us understand why people’s metabolism and nutrition requirements differ from one another.Collaboration
- The NRI is located on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, a facility that is home to research groups from: Appalachian State University, Duke University, NC A&T State University, NC Central University, NC State University, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Charlotte, and the David H. Murdock Research Institute.
- The NRI hosts educational events for Kannapolis community members to learn about ongoing research.
- Locals are invited to volunteer for participation in research studies, contributing to the advancement of science while gaining insights into the field of precision medicine.
