Projects Benefitting Northampton County
- The North Carolina Men’s Health Report Card draws from numerous sources to provide a comprehensive overview of the health landscape for men across the state.
- Carolina researchers created the Rural Research Alliance of Community Pharmacies, which is the first multi-state practice-based research network exclusively for rural community pharmacies.
- The Rural Pharmacy Health Certificate Program launched by the Eshelman School of Pharmacy works with the school’s recruitment team to attract students from rural counties in an effort to grow the rural health care workforce across North Carolina.
- Funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the UNC Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research identifies and overcomes barriers to medical providers incorporating evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder into their practice.
- With funding from the National Cancer Institute, the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center studies ways to reduce health disparities in cancer patients.
- Led by the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and funded by the Duke Endowment, researchers are working to improve maternity care practices and breastfeeding rates in hospitals located in underserved communities.

Outreach manager protects NC families
Center for Public Engagement with Science works with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Children’s Environmental Health Unit to develop trainings and educational resources. The group helps NCDHHS share these resources and also makes sure public health professionals and/or nonprofits with a health mission have access to them.

New UNC study identifies disparities in testing and treating well water among low-income, BIPOC households in N.C.
A new study published in Environmental Justice by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found that private well testing and treatment levels were significantly predicted by race and income, even though high levels of contamination were equally distributed across the research areas.

A new study published in Atmospheric Environment by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill analyzed space and time trends for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the continental United States to track the progress of regulatory actions by federal, state and local authorities aimed at curbing air pollution.
