Office of Research Development [TEST]
The primary mission of the Office of Research Development (ORD) is to expand the University of North Carolina’s capacity for innovative, groundbreaking research and scholarship.
In pursuit of this mission, we provide key resources and services to ease pre-award processes and enhance the collaborative potential of UNC researchers and scholars.
Engagement
ORD is the cross-campus nexus to connecting UNC ideas and enhance collaboration.
We host activities that engage research development at the pre-award stage to enhance UNC’s competitiveness in securing funding for research and scholarly projects. These activities include consultations for project ideation and resource identification, thematic workshops, and multi-disciplinary team construction for strategic initiatives, and engagement with intramural campus and extramural partners.
Proposal Development
ORD accelerates UNC’s success in obtaining extramural funding through proposal development activities.
Multidisciplinary research projects leverage the perspectives of different discipline to tackle today’s most challenging problems. We provide direct support for planning and submission of the large-scale, complex proposals required for these projects.
Small-scale research proposal support is provided on a limited basis through faculty consultations and through Resources provided on this site.
Limited Submission Grants and Awards
ORD manages limited submission grant and awards to ensure UNC advances top candidates in these competitions.
We maintain a database of limited submission opportunities and host internal competitions featuring short-form applications and internal review processes.
Intramural Funding Programs
The Office of Research and Development hosts funding opportunities provided by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR). These funding opportunities enable research teams to better pursue external funding and include targeted funding for fine arts and humanities scholars and researchers, funds for idea development and team building, and interdisciplinary “grand challenge” awards.
