Carolina’s research enterprise depends on the talent, dedication, and creativity of its people. To sustain this critical workforce, we must ensure our researchers have the support, skills, and environment needed to thrive. With this goal we aim to:

  • Strengthen the performance, accountability, and strategic alignment of research centers and institutes by implementing a consistent annual evaluation process that clarifies expectations, improves alignment, and positions units for long term success.
  • Equip new research leaders with the knowledge, relationships, and organizational context needed to thrive by delivering a structured, high-quality onboarding program that fosters strong engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Support emerging researchers by providing high-quality, structured career exploration and professional development programs aligned with institutional research priorities and preparing participants for diverse career pathways.
  • Improve the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of research mentoring by implementing a tiered, evidence-based mentoring program that provides faculty mentors and trainees with clear expectations, skills, and support.
