Dr. Kim Brownley has been named as OHRE’s new Associate Director of Policy & Initiatives.

Kim joined the UNC faculty in 1999. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, where she previously served as Vice Chair for Diversity and Inclusion and Director of Research Training and Compliance. Kim is a Certified IRB Professional, has served as an IRB Chair since 2013 and as Interim Director of OHRE from Jan 2015-Jul 2015. She is a founding member of the UNC Scientific Review Committee and co-Director of the NC TraCS Regulatory Services.

As a Principal Investigator, Kim has researched various aspects of human psychology, physiology, and behavior. She focused on stress, mental health, and the psychobiology of appetite regulation. In her new role, Kim is excited to share her knowledge of the regulatory framework governing human subjects research and her experience as a PI. Kim hopes to mentor and teach others how to take research from concept to completion with as few regulatory bumps in the road as possible.

In her spare time, Kim and her wife enjoy attending UNC athletic events, taking in the local arts and music scenes, and traveling.
