Subject: Online Submission for Biomedical IRB Launches December 12

TO: Researchers who use the Biomedical IRB

As you may know, we have been proceeding through a phased implementation of ONLINE IRB SUBMISSIONS. This represents a major milestone for human subjects research at Carolina, improving the efficiency and the effectiveness of the review process. Departments that have their research reviewed by the Behavioral and Public Health/Nursing IRBs have been submitting online for several months. The final phase will include departments submitting to the Biomedical IRB.

Beginning December 12, we will accept online submissions from ALL CAMPUS DEPARTMENTS, including those that have their research reviewed by the Biomedical IRB. The OHRE website will provide information and links about how to access the online system at that time.

We continue to offer training sessions to give faculty, staff and students the opportunity to learn about the new system. A list of upcoming training sessions and online training materials can be found at: https://research.unc.edu/offices/human-research-ethics/online-submission/training/

If you have questions about this important change, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Research Information Systems at 843-2594. Thanks in advance for your help through this transition.

Sincerely,
