Additional FAQs and Resources on NIH Common Forms Requirements

As previously announced, the NIH is enforcing common form usage. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Sponsored Program Office, School of Medicine RAISE, and the Health Science Libraries continue to partner to produce resources and provide support.

Upcoming training opportunities:

Symposium Training Session: 

This session provides an overview of recent changes to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant application requirements, including new Common Forms that are required for due dates on or after January 25, 2026.

In particular, this presentation will focus on the Biosketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support forms, which will need to be completed using the SciENcv tool. It will include demonstrations of SciENcv and account linking steps. The presentation aims to prepare researchers for the new NIH requirements by providing detailed instructions and resources to ensure compliance. 

Health Science Library Workshops: Overview of 2026 NIH Requirements: Biosketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support

The presentation aims to prepare researchers for the new NIH requirements by providing detailed instructions and resources to ensure compliance. 

This program is offered by the University Libraries Health Sciences Library and led by Katherine Howell.  

This session is being offered remotely via Zoom only. Registrants will receive a Zoom link.

  • Thursday, May 21 |12:00 – 1:00 PM 
  • Experts from RAISE, OSP, RCS, SPO, and HSL will be available to answer questions related to NIH Common Forms documents in SciENcv. 

New FAQs 

  • Yes, you should list your active international collaborations even if it is not directly required by the agency. 
  • List the collaboration on the Common Form under the In-Kind section of Current and Pending (Other) Support. 
  • Include a summary of the research parties, their institutional associations and locations, and purpose of the collaboration.  
  • If the collaboration consists of no measurable level of effort, enter “0” person months. 

  • UNC maintains a research security training in Carolina Talent at go.unc.edu/research-security
  • If you need to access a certificate, then log into to Carolina Talent, select “Learning”, select “View your transcript”, filter by “Completed”, select “View Certificate”
