NIH to Enforce Common Form Usage on May 8, 2026

by Brent Eisenbarth

This message is from Brian Collier, Director of Research Security in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research.

Effective May 8, 2026, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will enforce use of the common form for the Biographical Sketch (Biosketch) and Current and Pending (Other) Support components of grant applications (NOT-OD-26-079). Use of the Common Forms Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support, and NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement is required for application due dates and JIT, RPPR, and Prior Approval submissions on or after May 8, 2026.

This change is driven by National Security Presidential Memorandum-33 (NSPM-33), a directive from the federal government to align the disclosure requirements in research proposals.

Of particular note, senior and key personnel must:

  • Link their ORCiD to their eRA Commons account in the Personal Profile (PPF)
  • Confirm that their ORCiD is displayed in the Persistent Identifier section of Common Forms.
  • Use SciENcv to generate their Biosketch and Other Support forms.

The NIH has provided information on how investigators can prepare and Frequently Asked Questions. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research maintains a Biosketch and Other Support guidance webpage, and campus partners, including the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), School of Medicine Research Administration, Improvement, Strategy & Engagement (RAISE), and the Health Science Libraries provide office hours, a symposium session, trainings, and resources.

Office Hours:

SOM RAISE is hosting Office Hours over Zoom (join call). Experts from RAISE, OSP, RCS, SPO, and HSL will attend to answer questions related to NIH Common Forms documents in SciENcv.
