Application Process For Postdoctoral Scholars


Postdocs can participate in PULSE by following the steps below. These structured stages ensure alignment between the postdoc, their mentor, and the Core Facility to create a productive and rewarding experience.
1. Explore Opportunities
- Review available projects on the Open Projects webpage.
- Identify projects that align with your research interests or skill development goals.
2. Obtain Faculty Mentor Approval
- Discuss participation with your faculty mentor to confirm support.
- Ensure they are comfortable with the expected time commitment (typically 10–20% effort for up to three months).
- Prepare the required Faculty Support Letter using the provided template.
3. Submit Your Application
- Use the following guidelines and example to format your CV
- Complete the Postdoc Submission Portal form
- Indicate the specific project you’re applying for
- Include a short statement of interest outlining your motivation and expected learning outcomes.
4. Screening & Matching
- The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) will forward your application to the relevant Core Facility for review.
- Applications will be assessed based on alignment of skills, interest, and project needs.
5. Meet with Core Mentor
- Selected candidates will be invited to meet with the Core Director and/or designated mentor(s).
- This discussion will clarify project expectations, timelines, and mutual fit.
6. Finalize Agreement
- Once matched, all parties—the Postdoc, Core Facility, and Faculty Mentor—will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) outlining the project scope, expectations, and duration.
7. Complete Project & Reflection
- Engage in the project as agreed and communicate regularly with your Core mentor.
- At the conclusion, you will be asked to submit a brief evaluation to OPA summarizing your experience, skills gained, and project outcomes.
