State Graduate Medical Education (GME) Summit

Save the date for the UNC Chapel Hill Rural Residency Planning and Development, Teaching Health Center Planning and Development, and Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance Centers’ inaugural virtual State Graduate Medical Education (GME) Summit! The summit is being held on March 26, 2025 from 12-4pm ET via Zoom.  

At this event, rural GME and teaching health center GME program leaders, technical assistance organizations, state office staff, policymakers, and other interested GME stakeholders will come together to share best practices and foster a collaborative understanding of how to optimize state GME funding and strategies to support rural and medically underserved communities across the U.S.

Event attendees will: 

·                Gain a more complete understanding of the healthcare workforce landscape across our nation’s states. 

·                Review “state GME 101” financial concepts and the various non-Medicare funding mechanisms leveraged by states for GME programming. 

·                Dive into case study examples of state-level innovations in GME outcomes tracking and reporting and innovative models for leveraging state GME dollars. 

·                Break out by state GME strategy maturity level and discuss getting started with a state GME framework or optimizing an existing state GME strategy. 

·                Learn more about GME strategies to improve population health of underserved communities, looking specifically at rural GME, health center GME, and partnerships with other allied health professions.
