Dream: Diverse and Resilient Educators Advised through Mentorship

The Diverse and Resilient Educators Advised through Mentorship teacher residency program ā is a collaboration between the UNC School of Education and Durham Public Schools (DPS) to recruit, train, and support highly effective, responsive, transformative, and committed educators to serve the diverse DPS student population. Made possible by a $4.8 million U.S. Department of Education grant, DREAM prepares participating MAT students and provides them with three years of unique on-the-job guided mentorship to help ensure an effective and meaningful career as a DPS educator.
UNC research team awarded $1.5 million NASA grant to explore disparities and solutions to urban heat stress and climate justice in U.S.

A new $1.5 million grant from NASA will allow an interdisciplinary team of researchers, led by Angel Hsu an assistant professor of public policy and director of the Data-Driven EnviroLab (DDL) at the UNC Institute for the Environment, to harness the power of satellite remote sensing data, community-collected temperature data and machine learning to evaluate disparities in heat stress from environmental and climate injustices across the U.S.
UNC ObGyn, Orange County Department of Health recieve funding to reduce inequities in Maternal Health Care and Outcomes

A study between the UNC Chapel-Hill and Orange County Health Department, called āThriving Hearts: Healing-Centered, Integrated, Community Maternity Care,ā has been approved for a $21-million funding award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The funding award will be used to reduce the incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and improve maternal outcomes across 10 North Carolina counties over the next six years.Ā The intervention will be delivered by local health departments inĀ Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, Johnston, Orange, and Person Counties, with the goal of strengthening the ecosystem for pregnant and parenting people across each county.
