Please consider hosting an event during UNC Research Week (URW), happening October 19 – 23.
Submit your event here to be featured on the URW website.
URW is an annual, campus-wide initiative sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Office for Undergraduate Research. Through a week-long series of events hosted by units across campus, the community will come together for workshops, forums, and fairs that celebrate UNC-Chapel Hill’s work and inspire the next generation.
Each year, we work to align events around a central subject, and this year’s theme is “What’s Next?” We’ll showcase emerging ideas, discoveries, and innovations at Carolina that are shaping our future.
Event Examples
Here are some ideas for how your unit or team can participate in URW:
- Research labs: Hold an “open lab” event to invite interested students or potential collaborators to see what you’re working on and explain the impact of your studies.
- Research administrators: Host a panel discussion about shifting trends in managing research projects and what you’re anticipating for the future of this work.
- Offices: Sponsor a “speed networking” event between faculty and your staff so they can better understand your office’s role in the research enterprise and make connections for future projects.
- Departments: Host “lighting talks” with five to 10 researchers who are making significant advancements in their fields.
Event Logistics
As you are planning your events, please keep in mind:
- Please try to schedule your event around the following key events:
- The Research & Discovery Fair, 10/21 from 11 am – 2 pm
- Getting Started in Research, 10/19 from 5 – 6:15 pm
- The Het Talks virtual event series, 10/19, 10/20, and 10/22 from 12 to 1 pm
- Events should have a finalized name, date, time, location, and description before submission.
- Avoid scheduling events early Monday morning or late Friday afternoon, as those times typically have lower attendance.
- A suggested marketing plan for all events will be provided in August. However, event organizers are responsible for primary outreach and promotion to their target audience.
The deadline to submit an event is October 1. Please submit your event by filling out this form.
Thank you for helping us celebrate Carolina’s research community!
Sincerely,
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & The Office for Undergraduate Research
