Business Services Coordinator Laura Munn is celebrating 30 years at UNC and 23 years at OHRE.

For three decades, Laura has been a reliable and friendly presence at UNC. Whether juggling tough schedules or mentoring new employees, Laura has always gone the extra mile. Her unwavering commitment, expertise, and spirit of collaboration have helped make OHRE what it is today.
Laura began work at UNC Health in 1995, which was then called UNC Hospitals. She started in Medical Records, moved to GI Procedures, then Cancer Registry, before finally landing at OHRE in August of 2000.
Laura says, “when I first started, I didn’t even know what OHRE stood for, let alone what the IRB was.” Now, she’s seen nine directors come through OHRE’s doors.
“Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about why we do what we do and the regulations. I love helping onboard new employees, keeping the office administrative functions running, planning meetings and events, and supporting Carley and the other associate directors. I Iove it.”
OHRE Director Carley Emerson says, “Laura is an invaluable resource for all of us in OHRE. She has spent her entire career with Carolina and her historical knowledge of both Carolina and OHRE is impressive. Laura is very dedicated and is always ready and willing to jump in to help at any time. Laura was so welcoming and supportive when I joined OHRE in 2022 and I am so grateful to have Laura on the OHRE team. Thank you, Laura!”
Please join us in congratulating Laura on her incredible journey and service. Laura says she doesn’t plan on retiring any time soon.
“I don’t really want to go and start fresh somewhere else, so I’m going to stick around. Sorry, you’re stuck with me!”
Thank you, Laura for 30 great years. Here’s to your next chapter at UNC!
