Research Science and Security Launches Wave 1 of the Research Security Training

by Brent Eisenbarth

The Research Science and Security office is launching the University of North Carolina’s research security (RS) training program. This training is being released in two waves, in order to pilot the training and incorporate campus feedback.

Additional Details:

Who needs RS training?

You should complete the training curriculum now (during the first wave) if you are:

  • A researcher working on an active Department of Energy grant
  • A researcher submitting a proposal to the Department of Energy

The training will be released to researchers working on other Federal grants later this year.

How much time should I reserve to complete the training?

The training curriculum takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

When does RS training need to be completed?

If you are assigned training, please complete the training by April 30th, 2025.

What determined the content of the RS training modules?

The curriculum’s learning goals and content reflect training requirements issued in NSPM-33 and by the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Research Compliance Services has aimed to apply these requirements to the practice of research here, at the UNC. After completing the training, learners should be able to practice Research Security in their day-to-day work.

How can I provide feedback on the RS training?

We hope you will provide feedback to help us improve the training. Upon completion of the modules, you will receive a completion email with a link to an anonymous survey. You are also welcome to contact the office directly.

Who should I contact with comments or questions?

For questions or comments, please contact the Research Science and Security office. Thank you.
