Dear Carolina research community,

Today a federal court judge in Massachusetts granted a nationwide preliminary injunction against the NIH’s proposed indirect costs rate cap of 15%. This injunction extends the judge’s earlier prohibition on implementing the cap, and therefore the University may continue to use the normal rates pursuant to our negotiated indirect cost rate agreement.

This news was just shared with us, and we are still analyzing what impact it will have on our operations and determining next steps.

We will share what we know about this decision, along with other relevant updates, and answer questions regarding current research impact during tomorrow’s OVCR Office Hours session on Thursday, March 6th from 2-3:00 p.m. Questions can be submitted in advance to OVCROfficeHours@unc.edu.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Carolina’s research enterprise. We will follow up with more information as it becomes available.
