Congressional Midterm Election Results
Election officials continue to count votes in multiple races following the November 8 elections, but it appears likely that Republicans will win enough seats to take control of the House in January. Senate control will remain unknown until December when Georgia holds a runoff election for its Senate race.
In January, North Carolina will be represented by two Republican Senators: newly elected Ted Budd (a current House member) and Senator Thom Tillis, who is still serving in his second term. The House delegation will be split evenly between seven Democrats and seven Republicans (see below). Among these individuals are six UNC-Chapel Hill alumni: Deborah Ross, Greg Murphy, Valerie Foushee, Virginia Foxx, Dan Bishop, and Jeff Jackson. UNC’s Office of Federal Affairs will provide more information about the new congressional delegation once House leadership makes committee assignments, likely in January.
