NIH OITE Mental Health and Well-Being of Biomedical Researchers Series: Trauma and Its Workplace Impacts

December 12, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:50 pm

The NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education (NIH OITE) hosts the annual Mental Health and Well-Being Webinar Series to promote mental health and well-being for the biomedical research community. Trainees at all levels, administrators, and faculty both at the NIH and in the extramural community are welcome to attend.

Each month’s topic includes:

• An opening webinar
• Q&A and small-group discussions facilitated by experienced mental health practitioners
• In-depth strategy development and skills practice, eg, perfection management, executive functioning, mindfulness

This month’s topic is Trauma and its Workplace Impacts. The experience of individual, community, and systematic trauma can profoundly impact daily life. Though we have begun to speak more about this issue in recent years, the definition and impact of individual and collective trauma can still feel overwhelming and challenging to fully understand. This talk seeks to provide clarity by defining trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and clearly explaining its impact on individuals and the community with a focus on specific stressors and challenges unique to the biomedical field. Importantly, the webinar provides strategies and tools to support oneself and others who have experienced trauma.

Sponsored by the NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education.
