How to Edit Scholarly Volumes: Lessons from the Presumed Incompetent Project (virtual).

May 24, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the publication of Presumed Incompetent: The Intersections of Race and Class for Women in Academia (Gabriella Gutirrez y Muhs, Yolanda Flores Niemann, Carmen G. Gonzalez, Angela P. Harris, eds.). The book sold over 10,000 copies and inspired us to edit a sequel, Presumed Incompetent II: Race Class Power and Resistance of Women in Academia (2020).
Drawing upon the lessons of the Presumed Incompetent project and other volumes I have edited, this webinar provides useful information for faculty who would like to edit a scholarly volume. What unique contributions do edited volumes make? Should I invite co-editors? How do I select contributors? What issues are likely to arise in edited volumes that consist of personal narratives? What are some best practices for effective project management? How do I publicize the volume? The webinar will answer these and many additional questions.

This webinar is sponsored by the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity. Attendance is free with the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs / UNC’s institutional membership. You must use your UNC email to create an account and register.
