Debate on Nuclear Energy with Dr. Steven E. Koonin

Dr. Steven E. Koonin, the Obama Administration’s Under Secretary for Science, will take part in a debate about the benefits and drawbacks of nuclear energy. Koonin’s research interests have included theoretical nuclear, many-body, and computational physics, nuclear astrophysics, and global environmental science. In 2021, Koonin published the book Unsettled: What Climate Science Tells Us, What It Doesn’t, and Why It Matters.

The debate will be held on Wednesday, November 1st at 5:30 PM in-person at the Carolina Union Auditorium. Provost Chris Clemens will moderate the debate.

The event will be co-sponsored and hosted by UNC’s Program for Public Discourse, the Steamboat Institute, the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation, and the Carolina Liberty Foundation.

This is an in-person event.
