Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity (CPPFD) accepting applicants

As part of a continuing commitment to building a culturally diverse intellectual community and advancing scholars from different backgrounds in higher education, the CPPFD is pleased to offer postdoctoral research appointments for a period of two years. Applicants who will have completed their doctoral degree no later than July 1, 2021 and no earlier than July 1, 2016 in any discipline represented at UNC are eligible to apply. The primary criterion for selection is evidence of scholarship potentially competitive for tenure track appointments at UNC and other research universities.

Interested applicants should apply online. For additional information, please visit the program website. Questions may be directed to the program coordinator, Jennifer Pruitt in the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.

University Research Week recordings available online

University Research Week is an annual celebration of Carolinaʼs research excellence and an effort to increase participation by students, of all levels, in research activity. University Research Week 2020 took place October 19-23 in a completely virtual format. If you missed it, just head to researchweek.unc.edu to watch some of the recorded Zoom events including talks from this yearʼs Hettleman Award winners, a COVID-19 symposium featuring three of Carolinaʼs leading pandemic researchers, and a presentation for students on how to get involved in research.

Distinguish yourself and your research with an ORCID iD

Publishers and funding agencies are increasingly integrating and requiring ORCID iDs — a unique and persistent digital identifier that researchers can use to distinguish themselves from other researchers, especially those with similar names — in their publication submission and grant application processes. NIH, AHRQ, and CDC now require individuals who receive research training, fellowship, research education, and career development awards to have ORCID iDs.

The ORCID identifier comes with an associated online record that links scholarly activities to the iD itself, which provides researchers with several benefits including:

  • streamlined manuscript and grant submission workflows;
  • name disambiguation;
  • a lifetime scholarly record connecting all work; and
  • increased visibility of research outputs.

UNC is an ORCID member and encourages all researchers, including graduate students, postdocs, and other early career researchers, to:

  1. create a free ORCID iD;
  2. connect your ORCID iD to UNC;
  3. import your research; and
  4. use your ORCID iD when you apply for grants or submit publications and include it in your CV and email signature.

For more information about ORCID, please visit the University Librariesʼ ORCID guide or email ORCIDteam@unc.edu.
