NPA Webinar: myPostdoc Monthly: Immigration & Visas

The session will cover the types of visas used by postdoctoral researchers. Learn about self-sponsored applications, J-1 waivers and other visas, such as the F1 (OPT) and J-1 visas (including J1 waivers), and H-1B/O-1/TN. The webinar will also cover what to do after your postdoc, as you move through your career transitions. Brendan Delaney, Esq , will discuss the type of issues that the postdocs face in terms of visa transition and how you can build a CV/resume for purposes of a self-sponsored application in order to continue your career development and/or transition to an employment position. He will also review the recent guidance that was published relating to STEM, and how this affects certain visa applications. The webinar will leave you with some practical information and allow some time for general questions.

A native of Northern Ireland, Delaney received his Juris Doctor at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC, in January 2009. Focusing on the representation of foreign born nationals, and U.S. employers with their U.S. immigration matters, his work includes an emphasis on Extraordinary Ability and National Interest Waiver cases, as well as EB-1B, PERM, J-Waiver, and H1B applications. He works extensively with scientists, researchers, physicians, and other professionals, as well as organizations and employers in both academia and industry. He assists with their temporary and permanent visa applications on a company, individual, and institutional basis.

Delaney has been invited to speak on a number of occasions at the Annual Conference of the NPA, and NAFSA Region VIII, as well as conducting legal seminars at universities and institutions across the United States. He has co-authored numerous articles related to postdoctoral issues for The POSTDOCket, and currently serves on the NPA’s Advisory Council. He has also been quoted in a number of news and media articles related to immigration issues for scientists and researchers.
