A 10-12 week summer research fellowship may be available for veterinary students who show a demonstrated interest in biomedical research. The program provides students with practical research experience and mentorship at a leading institution in cutting-edge infectious disease research.

Students will complete a summer research project in the field of virology with a DCM faculty mentor. Externs will also participate in veterinary service rounds, clinical veterinary meetings and weekly collaborative didactic training through the Research Triangle Laboratory Animal Training Program (RTLATP), as time allows. Externs will be expected to present their research at a DCM departmental meeting. A stipend of up to $5,000 will be provided from departmental funds.
