2024 was a year of significant growth for the BIPOC-PA. Reestablished in 2023 with the goal of increasing membership and participation, we were thrilled to see so many postdocs join our monthly Zoom meetings, where we welcomed newcomers and shared resources to enhance the postdoc experience. In the spring, we participated in educational outreach through UNC’s Science Expo with exhibits like The Science of Skin Tone and Minority Scientist You Should Know, as well as STEAM Unity Day in partnership with Community360nc. Our community outreach event, Let’s Give Back, allowed us to distribute goods to the unhoused population of Chapel Hill. Summer brought social events, including a bowling party at Bowlero Durham and a storytelling session paired with a gallery walk of Contemporary American Indian Art led by UNC’s Ryan Dial of the NC Lumbee Tribe at the NC Museum of Art. We wrapped up the year with our annual Unity Coffee Hour networking event between postdocs and UNC BIPOC faculty and staff during National Postdoc Appreciation Week, a visit to McKee Farm for fall activities like a corn maze and hayride, followed by a celebration at K-Mix Karaoke. We look forward to providing more special events for our lovely community and making more unforgettable memories with you all 😄
