Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Grants Cycle Changed in 2004
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation in Winston-Salem will drop its fall grants cycle in 2004 and make grants only in the spring, then resuming its fall grants cycle in 2005. While the foundation will not accept applications in August, it still will meet the federal requirement that it make annual grants equal to 5 percent of its assets. To do that, the foundation may make more grants in the spring, or possibly make some in the fall based on applications it receives this February. READ MORE

Using Logic Models in Grant Development
A logic model is a visual presentation of why and how you believe a program will work. It is used to help you plan, manage, and evaluate your program objectives and actual accomplishments. In a grant application, a logic model shows the funder how their grant works with other community resources to carry out your program, and provides the basis for evaluation.

For a description of how to use logic models in grant development see the Charity Channel and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.

COS Search for Keywords
When you search Community of Science (COS) Funding Opportunities, do you often use the keyword browser to select the keywords you would like to include in your search? In addition to browsing the hierarchal categories of keywords, don't forget the "search" option at the bottom of the keyword browser. Simply enter the word or phrase for which you are looking in the search box. The results will include all keywords that contain that word or phrase, as well as the string that tells you where in the keyword hierarchy they are found. To insert the keyword(s) into your search form, simply click on it in the list of results. If you would like to search for a phrase, rather than just a single word, remember to put it in quotation marks in the search box.
