COS Changes
COS has made some changes to COS Funding Opportunities and COS Funding Alerts. Users can now save up to 20 searches and track up to 100 opportunities from the COS Workbench. Also, users can save COS Funding Opportunity searches as alerts, receive weekly emails for specified searches only; and more easily manage Funding Alert preferences. Customized Presentations on Identifying Funding Sources
The GrantSource Library offers customized group training sessions on how to identify potential funding sources for research, training, and other scholarly endeavors.
In each session, a GrantSource Librarian demonstrates online resources for identifying funding opportunities, how to set-up a funding alert, conduct a search for targeted grant information, and find Carolina internal funding sources. Other topics include tips for conducting a funding search and an overview of resources available through the GrantSource Library.

Foundation Finder
The Foundation Center’s free service, Foundation Finder, provides basic information on more than 86,000 grantmakers in the U.S., including private foundations, community foundations, grantmaking public charities, and corporate giving programs. Foundation Finder has recently expanded and improved to allow users to:
- search by grantmaker name;
- search by geography;
- search by EIN number; and
- view a foundation’s IRS 990 return.

Keck Futures Initiative and Funding Opportunities: Research Conference in Smart Prosthetics
Date: November 9-11
Place: Irvine, California
The National Academies announce the 2006 Keck Futures Initiative research conference, which will provide an opportunity for researchers from different disciplines to focus on new possibilities in the field of prosthetics.
The Keck Futures Initiative will pay all travel expenses, including lodging and meals, for invited research attendees. The initiative also offers seed funding to Futures Conference research participants on a competitive basis to enable pursuit of important new ideas and connections.
