NIH Reduces Error Correction Window to Two Days

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will reduce the "error correction window" (the time allowed after the submission deadline to address NIH system-identified errors/warnings) from five (5) to two (2) business days beginning January 8, 2008.

The two business days provided to view the assembled application image in eRA Commons will remain unchanged.

NIH Examination of the Grant Review Process

An article in the December 7 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education looked at the ongoing examination of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant review process. More Information about NSF’s Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released a Frequently Asked Questions update on the new Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation Program. Sirin Tekinay, who leads the program, also conducted an interview with the Chronicle of Higher Education in the November 30 issue about the program.

NIMH Strategic Plan Available for Comment

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has released the draft of the new strategic plan that will serve as a guide for advancing mental health science over the next 3-5 years.

Comments will be accepted by email through December 21, 2007.

NIEHS's Partnerships for Environmental Health Program

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is developing a unified program referred to as "Partnerships for Environmental Public Health" (PEPH) that will support a variety of research, outreach, and education activities to prevent, reduce, or eliminate environmental exposures that may lead to adverse health outcomes in communities, with the active engagement of those communities in all stages of the work.

To establish a vision for the PEPH Program, NIEHS is seeking input from the lay public, environmental health researchers, health-care professionals, educators, policy makers, and others with a vested interest in the effects of environmental exposures on public health.

Seminar on the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program

Date: Friday, December 14
Time: 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Bradley Smith, executive director of the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), will conduct an online seminar about SERDP funding opportunities. This "how to play" briefing will offer essential information for those who are interested in new funding opportunities in SERDP, which is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Technology Innovation Program.  During the online seminar, participants may ask general questions about the SERDP funding process, submitting proposals, and the FY 2009 solicitations.

Changes in NSF Alert Service

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has replaced MyNSF with a new email alert service called "National Science Foundation Update." The new service will include new categories of content and options for update frequency, among other features. Subscriptions set up in MyNSF will be automatically transferred, but passwords will be reset.
