NIH Alert on Delay in Grants.gov Processing
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) released an alert yesterday informing applicants that Grants.gov has been experiencing processing delays due to multiple agency deadlines in the week of March 5 – 9, and that response time may be longer than usual. NIH is aware of the problem, and applicants will not be penalized for Grants.gov and eRA Commons issues. For information on how to deal with a delayed submission, read the full alert.
SBIR/STTR Omnibus Solicitation from the NIH, CDC and FDA
The National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration have released an omnibus solicitation for their Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants programs.
NSF and Department of Energy Partner in Education and Human Resources
The National Science Foundation (NSF) and Department of Energy (DoE) are collaborating to promote the development of human resources in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Current PIs of awards managed by a number of NSF programs are invited to seek supplemental support from NSF for students and faculty who are accepted as participants in one of four DoE initiatives intended to support hands-on research opportunities in DoE national laboratories during the summer.
AHRQ Interested in Research Implementation
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) released a special notice to emphasize their interest in the adaptation and implementation of research products, tools, and interventions, especially research that tests the use of evidence-based tools and interventions in health care settings. This will be a priority topic under AHRQ's R03 small research grant program.
NOAA Invites Applications Outside of Program Areas
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released a BAA for research, projects, or sponsorships (e.g., conferences, newsletters, etc.) that are not normally funded through their competitive discretionary programs. Proposals must address at least one of the five goals in the NOAA Strategic Plan, and innovative new ideas are welcomed.
OMB Requests Comments on Federal Awards Made Database
The White House Office of Management and Budget, which has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006, has opened a website to explain the project and request feedback. The act calls for a single, easily-searchable database containing information on all federal awards made. The site is to be online by January 1, 2008, with sub-grant and sub-contract information available by January 1, 2009.
Change in Unsolicited NSF Chemistry Proposal Dates
The National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Chemistry has changed its proposal submission window for unsolicited proposals from the current single long window (second Monday in July until the second Friday in January) to two shorter windows: one between July 1 and July 31 and another between November 1 and November 30. The window changes are effective immediately.
