NIH Regional Seminar

Date: April 24-26, 2007
Place: Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Research Triangle Park

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and local partners will sponsor an NIH Regional Seminar on the NIH funding process, from application preparation to post-award administration.

The NIH Regional Seminar is designed for researchers and research administrators from academic institutions and private organizations in the eastern United States. Faculty and staff from universities, medical centers, small and minority colleges, and for-profit research organizations are encouraged to attend this conference.

Discussions of issues affecting NIH funding and grant administration will give conference participants a comprehensive, up-to-date view of NIH-sponsored research. Other discussion topics will include the fundamentals of conducting business with NIH (grant application preparation, electronic submission, peer review, budget analysis, and award determination), and current topics (strategic and financial management plans, indirect costs, and effective administration between NIH and recipients). The format will include case studies, group discussions, formal presentations, and time for conference participants to meet informally with NIH representatives to discuss topics of special interest.

Information for NIH Applicants from OSR

The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) has released information for National Institutes of Health (NIH) applicants preparing proposals for the February 5, 2007 deadline. First, researchers can now download an R01 Parent Announcement (PA-07-070) from Grants.gov, which must be used by all applicants submitting for the February 5, 2007 receipt date.

Second, OSR encourages early submission, especially in light of the changes introduced this application cycle. NIH allows R01 proposals to be submitted beginning January 5, 2007, and OSR requires applicants to forward final R01 applications to them by Monday, January 29, 2007. Any proposals submitted after that date are in jeopardy of not being submitted on time or without the necessary degree of accuracy that would assure Grants.gov and eRA Commons acceptance.

For more information contact Carolyn Marlow or Hamilton Brown.
