North Carolina Biotechnology Center Funding Information Forum
Date: March 14
Time: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Place: 1131
Bioinformatics Building
The Office of Research Development and the Office of Information and Communications, through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, invite interested faculty and staff to attend the North Carolina Biotechnology Funding Information Forum at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Maria Rapoza, vice president and director of the Science and Technology Development Program at the N.C. Biotechnology Center, will be the keynote speaker. She will talk about the center’s funding programs for bioscience and biotechnology research that focuses on or contributes to the use of living cells or their processes to make products or solve problems. These include Institutional Development Grants, Faculty Recruitment Grants, Collaborative Funding Grants, Multidisciplinary Research Grants, and grant and sponsorship funding for qualified biotechnology meetings and events.
A panel of Carolina researchers who have received funding from the center also will share comments about their successful proposals and tips for developing research programs. Time will be allotted for discussion and questions.
The Science and Technology Development Program of the N.C. Biotechnology Center works to strengthen North Carolina’s biotechnology research infrastructure by providing grants and fostering intellectual exchange opportunities. Successful development of biotechnology begins with a strong research base generating the scientific advances that lead to new commercial products and applications. Since 1984, the program has provided over $50 million to enhance the research and intellectual capabilities of the state’s colleges, universities, and nonprofit research institutions.
