Ann Byassee
Office Administrator

Ann has been with OTD since 2000 and is currently tasked with budgeting, human resources, administering OTD’s start up company stock portfolio and maintaining the web site. Prior to that she worked as a 401k administrator and an investment portfolio administrator. Ann has a BA in Philosophy and Psychology from Centre College and an MA in Philosophy from the University of Kentucky. She is an avid reader and also enjoys interacting with friends online.

Kaye Carver
Technology Development Assistant

Kaye is a native of Person County (Roxboro), a graduate of Person Senior High School, and attended business school for 1 year (diploma in General office training). She also received her AAS degree at community college. Before joining OTD in 2005, Kaye worked with NC Central University and NC Mutual Life Ins. Co. Kaye provides administrative assistance to two project managers. In her free time, she enjoys walking and listening to gospel music, and her favorite singer is none other than Rev. Luther Barnes.

Jennifer Dean
Technology Development Assistant & Assistant to the Director of OTD

Jennifer is a native of Hickory, NC. She has been a front line resource for OTD since joining us in 2001, providing administrative support for our Director, as well as two of our project managers. She handles patent information and deadlines in our database, processes patent-related documents, and assists our Director with a variety of special projects. She is our primary event coordinator; her specialty is the “Carolina Innovations Seminar.” She loves the outdoors and is an avid fisherman (biggest bass to date, 6.5 lbs.; biggest cat, 20.5 lbs.) She adores her two kids and loves spending time with friends.

Doris B. Perry
Paralegal

Ms. Perry joined the Office of Technology Development (formerly Off. of Research Services) in October 1986. Doris is responsible for government compliance as it pertains to inventions with the University, as well as grant closeouts. She manages the database for invention disclosures and reviews all patent related documents. She also maintains statistics concerning inventions, patents, licenses, etc., and assists with material transfer agreements and special projects.

Judith Whitford
License Administrator

Judy has been with OTD since the fall of 2003. In 2005, after serving as a Technology Development Assistant, Judy was promoted to License Administrator. She is responsible for reviewing and entering licenses into the database, administering licenses to ensure they remain current with due diligence requirements, distributing royalty income to inventors and UNC departments, and coordinating collection of reimbursements for patent expenses from licensees.

Yolanda Perry
MTA Assistant

Yolanda Perry works closely with our MTA Coordinator, Joan Carver, Ph.D., to facilitate the management and execution of Material Transfer Agreements between our university and other institutions. Yolanda graduated from UNC-CH in 2008 with a B.A. degree in Communications Studies. While she considers writing her first love, Yolanda is married and being well-trained by the lovably goofy Leo. Does anyone else just love Boston Terriers?
