Synopsis
The Microsoft New Faculty Fellowship program seeks nominees who are advancing computing research in novel directions with the potential for high impact on the state of the art and who demonstrate the likelihood of becoming thought leaders in the field.
Because new faculty are so vital to the future of academic computer science, the Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellowship Program identifies, recognizes, and supports exceptional new faculty members engaged in innovative computing research. The objective of this program is to stimulate and support creative research undertaken by promising researchers who have the potential to make a profound impact on the field of computing in their research disciplines. The focus of the program is on novel, interdisciplinary approaches with computing "at the heart of the research." Funds may be applied to a wide variety of research areas including, but not limited to: security, interdisciplinary research, scientific computing, bioinformatics, computational biology, software engineering, and other areas in which computing transforms the discipline and advances the state of the art.
Guidelines
- An institution may nominate one candidate. An emphasis is placed on departments working on computing research areas and areas that involve the innovative application of computing.
- Candidates must be tenure track faculty in the first, second, or third year of their first faculty appointments by the November 19 deadline. Nominees must have been awarded their most recent Ph.D., Sc.D., or M.D./ Ph.D no earlier than the 2001 calendar year.
- Nominations of women and minorities are encouraged. A goal of the program is to make at least two of the New Faculty Fellowship awards in a year to qualified women applicants.
