Interdisciplinary / Multidisciplinary Initiatives

One of our goals is to enable greater collaboration among researchers from different disciplines. Both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research explore problems by uniting disciplines, but interdisciplinary initiatives create new tools and new fields of research. To encourage and support interdisciplinary partnerships, ORD provides:

Consultation at any stage of the research process (e.g. brainstorming project strategies, resource analyses, proposal critique);
Facilitation in forming new research groups;
Exploration of promising funding leads and assistance in making projects best fit funding guidelines;
Links to administrative support and funding agencies;
Review of proposal drafts;
Coordination of activities (e.g. communication, networking, marketing and packaging)
Collaboration in pan-university projects.

A Department of Energy Solar Energy Research Center (UNC-EFRC): Solar Fuels and the Next Generation Photovoltaic to mobilize the University's resources towards creating a sustainable energy future.

The Carolina Women's Center Conference on Sex Trafficking: Prevention and Intervention in North Carolina and Worldwide to bring together communities, students and Carolina scholars to address the crisis of trafficking of women and children.

A Translational Research Project Program Grant: "Neurobehavioral and Biological Consequences of Cocaine Use in Mother/Infant Dyads" recently awarded to Dr Joey Johns for $12 million by the NIH.
