Dates and Deadlines

Most reviews are expedited (reviewed by the Chair only or the Chair and selected reviewers). These reviews are done on a continual basis. Only those proposals subject to full board review are required to meet the submission deadlines. The IRB, guided by federal regulations, is responsible for determining review level. Review type criteria are explained more fully in Submission Instructions.

The Biomedical IRB has four committees and a meeting on each of the first four Mondays of the month, unless the Monday is a holiday. The Non-Biomedical IRB (former Behavioral and Public Health-Nursing IRBs) meets the second Tuesday of each month. For full board reviews, please observe the submission deadline for the committee governing your research. An application submitted by the published deadline will generally be assigned to that meeting. There may be circumstances when this is not possible, in which case it will assigned to the next available meeting.

New studies requiring dental expertise are reviewed by the Biomedical Committee B (meets second Monday except holidays). Once approved, a renewal or modification of a dental study can often be reviewed by any of the biomedical IRBs.

Important: The “Deadline” date in the table below is the submission deadline–the complete application must be received by 5pm that day at the IRB office. The “Meeting” date is when the committee meets.
