About Us

The Office of Clinical Trials processes contracts with private industry and other entities to perform clinical trials at UNC-Chapel Hill. Administrative functions have been centralized to refine procedures, improve efficiency and communication, coordinate efforts between departments and schools, and to provide accurate tracking of contracts and accounts. OCT also provides training and standardized policies and procedures for managing the clinical trials process.

Mission:

Consistent with UNC's mission to acquire, discover, preserve, synthesize, and transmit knowledge and to provide an environment for research, the Office of Clinical Trials (OCT) performs all administrative, legal, and pre-award budgetary functions for clinical trials. OCT provides a "one-stop" environment for clinical trial management. Once an internal or external party initiates a project, OCT, in conjunction with the department, will:

Purpose:

  1. Facilitate processing of contracts through standardized policies and procedures
  2. Provide training and education
  3. Act as a resource for coordinators, PIs, business administrators, and all clinical research personnel

The primary purpose of OCT is to facilitate processing of contracts with private industry and government entities to perform clinical trials at UNC. In an effort to increase the volume of clinical trials performed at UNC, administrative functions have been centralized to refine procedures, improve efficiency and communication, coordinate efforts between departments and schools, and to provide accurate tracking of contracts and accounts. OCT also provides training and standardized policies and procedures for managing the clinical trials process.
