Dental Procedures in Canines

Revised July 16, 2004

  1. Dental procedures in dogs will still have to be handled by the IACUC on a case-by-case basis.
  2. For root canal procedures not more than 8-10 teeth should be manipulated per dog.
  3. All dogs must be intubated for dental procedures requiring anesthesia. The preferred anesthetic agent is Isoflurane.
  4. Pain medication to be administered preemptively as well as postoperatively for 48 hours.
