In Cali, Colombia, "you dance with the grandmother, the kids,
the broom,
everything and everybody," says John Chasteen, associate professor of
history. He thinks westerners who are shy about dancing are missing out
on the fun. Inspired by his time living in Cali, Chasteen is writing a
book charting how Latin American dance has spread to other cultures.
