by Angela Spivey

lenn Hinson, chair of the curriculum in folklore, has been awarded the Chicago Folklore Prize for his book Fire in My Bones: Transcendence and the Holy Spirit in African American Gospel. The book focuses on a gospel service marking the 20th singing anniversary of the Branchettes, a women’s duo at the Long Branch Disciple Church in Newton Grove, N.C. Hinson is now helping the Branchettes produce a CD of their music; he wrote the grant to fund the production, helped choose the songs, and will follow them in the studio.
