Closing: The Life and Death of an American Factory chronicles the closing of White Furniture Company in Mebane, North Carolina. It's a story about the century-old company and the generation of people who worked there.

Photojournalist Bill Bamberger and writer Cathy N. Davidson collaborated on the book. Bamberger teaches in Carolina's American Studies program and in the School of Journalism. Davidson is a professor of English at Duke University.

Closing is a DoubleTake Book, published by the Center for Documentary Studies in association with W.W. Norton & Company.

This fall, these photos are on exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.
