It's estimated that during the growing season, rural North Carolina attracts 45,000 migrant farm workers, 80 percent of whom are Hispanic. Robert Miller, a photojournalist for the Raleigh News & Observer since 1987, has taken hundreds of photographs of migrant farm workers. Though Miller's photos portray the poverty, health hazards, and other obstacles migrant farm workers and their families face every day, he hopes the pictures also reveal what they have in common with us all--their dignity, perseverance, and sense of values.
