Carolina experiments with
"public journalism"

During the
1996 election season, North Carolina news media conducted an experiment.
Could a new type of journalism—public journalism—revive interest in politics?
Pledging to tailor their coverage to voters’ needs, six newspapers and
nine broadcasting stations launched a project called "Your Voice,
Your Vote." One year later, journalists, politicians, and researchers
are still debating the results.
