  1. Complete an Animal Order Form

  2. Note the Deadline for Submission
Animals requested by the ordering deadline of noon Monday will be delivered the following week. However, vendors may need more than one week to fill orders with large numbers of animals or orders with very specific requests (i.e. timed pregnant animals, exact age or weight requirements, unusual strains, etc.)

Placing your order as early as possible with correct protocol and billing account number, providing age and weight ranges, etc. will improve the chance of one-week delivery. Please note that the Monday at noon ordering deadline will be strictly enforced in order for the Division to prepare for incoming animals.

  3. Consider a Standing Order
The single most reliable method of assuring timely delivery of animals is to establish a standing order with our staff. Standing orders may be cancelled with one-week notice and reinstated at any time thereafter. There is a space on the Animal Order Form for setting up a standing order.

  4. Review Your Confirmation
Once an order has been placed a copy of the Animal Order Form will be faxed or mailed back to you. Please review the Confirming Information box at the end of the form to be sure everything is as requested.

  5. Use Your Animals
You can assume your animals will arrive on the day you requested. We will not call you to let you know of their arrival. If you are unsure of their room location check with the animal care supervisor in your facility. Vendor errors should be reported wihtin three days of arrival. 6. We recommend that your animals be given a period for psychologic, physiologic and nutritional stabilization before their use, the length of which depends on the type and duration of animal transportation to our facilities.

  7. Purchasing Costs
The DLAM re-bills all investigators for the cost of purchasing animals plus a $20 per strain ordered surcharge covering the administrative cost of procuring the animals. Cost of freight, shipping cartons, and any vendor miscellaneous charges (for special services such as vaccinations, time-pregnant animals, etc.) are also billed at cost to investigators.
