129/J Poor breeders, many missing litters, drown themselves by pushing shavings into sipper tubes, good size litters, gentle mice.
129/ReJ Large, docile mice.
129/SvJ Poor breeders, gentle mice.
A/HeJ
 		 Pretty, white coat, poor breeder, docile, eyes often open at birth.
A/J
 		 Gentle mouse, very clean, males prone to rectal proplapses, large litters, good breeders.
A/WySnJ
 		 Appear to be nice, fat, calm and clean coated mice.
AKR/J
 		 Heavy cage soiling, gentle but sometimes they will squeal when picked up, occasionally non-productive.
BAL/cByJ Heavy cage soiling, good size litters, females may have ulcerated eye lids, rough appearing coats
BALB/cJ have an oily coat that result s in an unkempt appearance. Moderate productivity rate, coats appear dirty and yellowed, heavy cage soiling, may have temporary hair loss
BUB/BnJ Docile, large size mice. Breeders occasionally chew ears.
C3H/HeJ
 		 Active, can be jumpy, two week old very active, blind after three weeks of age, cages wet from urine, females sexually mature very early (25 days)
C3H/HeOuJ
 		 Mice get fat as they age, hair loss in older breeders, good breeders.
C3HeB/FeJ
 		 Good breeders, mature breeders tend to be chubby.
C3H/HeSnJ
 		 Large size mice at weaning, good breeders.
C57BL/6J
 		 Females may die bearing their first litter, hydrocephalus is common in this strain at 4 weeks of age, occasional rectal and uterine prolapse, good breeders.
C57BL/6ByL
 		 Occasional barbering, calm mice, although 2-3 week old mice can be jumpy, poor breeders.
C57BL/10J
 		 Hair loss in weaning is very common, weanings can be active but breeders are not active.
C57BL/10SnJ
 		 Barbering in wean and breeders, occasional rectal and vaginal prolapse, wean is very jumpy occasional hydrocephalus noticed at 4 weeks of age, entire litter may be missing at weaning.
C57BLKS/J
 		 Barbing is common, small litter size, malocclusion common, poor breeders
C57BR/cdJ
 		 Very smelly, squeal when picked up, occasional seizures, can have very large litters. To prevent anemia, iron supplement is added to the drinking water.
C57/LJ
 		 Calm mice, like to have nesting materials for litter, poor breeders.
C58/J
 		 Small at weaning, poor breeders.
CBA/CaJ
 		 Very jumpy, clean mice, barbering common.
CBA/J
 		 Entire litters may be missing at weaning, hair loss in breeders after 5 to 6 months, older breeders prone to seizures, occasionally rectal prolapse, hyperactive, cages wet due to urine.
CE/J
 		 Very, very jumpy mice, usually chew ears of young mice, fair breeders, occasionally kinky tails, get fat as they age.
DBA/1J
 		 Young mice can be very jumpy, good breeders.
DBA/2J
 		 Squeal when picked up, some litters may be runty, difficult to sex at weaning, females sexually mature very early (~25 days).
FVB/NJ
 		 Large litters, calm, clean
I/LnJ
 		 Very docile, but poor breeders.
LP/J
 		 Active nests builders, tend to build nest under water bottle, active mice, poor breeders.
MA/MyJ
 		 Easy mice to work with, poor breeders, may not have first litter until 2 months after mating, small litter size, missing litters frequent, chewed tails occasionally.
MRL/MpJ
 		 Large body size, large litters
NZB/BINJ
 		 Barbering in breeders & weanlings, many missing litters, aggressive with each other, females get chubby with age, build nest under water bottle.
NZW/LacJ
 		 Calm, small litters, fair breeders.
P/J
 		 Small litters, many litters born dead.
PL/J
 		 Fair breeders, most weanlings have bent tails, gentle but active, older breeders may have seizures, weanlings often spin.
