About Us

Office History

The Research Compliance Office was established in the summer of 2007. With the appointment of Office staff members as the University’s Privacy and Conflict of Interest Officers, the Office assumed lead responsibility for policy, process, and oversight of these two important aspects of academic research. The Office partners with a growing team of compliance liaisons throughout the campus to ensure awareness and accountability for these and other topics.

Research compliance issues often affect multiple program offices and academic units. For example, our institutional response to Export Control regulations has implications for Sponsored Research, Human Resources, Environment, Health and Safety, Technology Development, and University Counsel, and depends on all academic units and the Office of Research Information Systems to provide communication and tools to facilitate compliance.

Reporting Structure

The Research Compliance Office reports to the Chancellor with strong dotted line relationships to the Vice Chancellor and General Counsel and to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
